Sample Group Itinerary
 
Day 1
Arrival, Welcome Lunch, Relax
  Welcome to Chile! When you arrive at the airport in Santiago, a van and a guide will be there to welcome your group. You will then go to meet your host families and participate in a welcome lunch. After lunch, you will go to your host family’s house and relax before taking a tour of the city. When the tour ends, you will return to your host family’s house for dinner and some free time to relax.
   
Day 2
Orientation, Welcome Lunch, Visit NGO
  After breakfast with your host family, you will travel to our center for an orientation in order to learn more about Chilean culture and the logistics of living and working in Santiago. You will then have a welcome lunch at our center. In the afternoon, you will visit the local non-profit organization where you will be volunteering. You will learn about the goals of the organization and how you can help during your time abroad. In the evening, you will have dinner with your host family and then have time to relax.
   
Day 3
Spanish Classes, Volunteer Work, La Chascona
  After breakfast with your host family, you will have Spanish classes until lunch. You will eat lunch with your group, and then participate in volunteer work for the afternoon. Specific volunteer duties will be determined on-site. Your group will then take a tour of La Chascona, one of the homes of Chile’s famed poet, Pablo Neruda. In the evening, you will have dinner with your host family and then have time to relax.
   
Day 4
Spanish Classes, Lecture on Chilean History, Volunteer Work
  After breakfast with your host family, you will have Spanish classes until lunch. After lunch with your group, you will participate in a lecture on Chilean History and Society. Then you will participate in volunteer work for the afternoon. Specific volunteer duties will be determined on-site. In the evening, you will have dinner with your host family and then have time to relax.
   
Day 5
Mercado Central, Volunteer Work, Relax
  After breakfast with your host family, your group will visit the Mercado Central, Santiago’s colorful market selling anything you could possibly imagine. You will have the opportunity to sample local cuisine at any one of the market stalls that double as restaurants. You will then travel to the non-profit organization to participate in volunteer work for the afternoon. Specific volunteer duties will be determined on-site. In the evening, you will have dinner with your host family and then have time to relax.
   
Day 6
Spanish Classes, Volunteer Work, Asado Dinner
  After breakfast with your host family, you will have Spanish classes until lunch. You will have lunch with your group, and then participate in volunteer work. Specific volunteer duties will be determined on-site. In the evening, you will enjoy an asado—a traditional Chilean meal that is unforgettable. Later, you can explore the chic neighborhood of Bellavista, which is full of colorful cafes and vibrant nightlife.
   
Day 7
Valparaiso and Isla Negra
  In the morning, you will wake up earlier than usual to travel to Valparaiso, a picturesque seaside village with pastel homes perched on hills connected by trolley cars. You will also stop by Viña del Mar, the nearby beach resort and tour Isla Negra, another home of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. Here, you will discover narrow winding streets and stunning views of the Pacific Coast. You will enjoy a fabulous seafood dinner and then spend the night at a hotel.
   
Day 8
Valparaiso and Viña del Mar
  After breakfast at your hotel, you will have time to explore Valparaiso on your own, allowing you to appreciate the funiculars and hidden labyrinths that make up a large part of the city. After lunch, you will travel briefly to Viña del Mar to see Valparaiso’s sister city. You will then travel back to Santiago and have the evening to relax with your host family.
   
Day 9
Spanish Classes, Volunteer Work, Parque por la Paz, Relax
  After breakfast with your host family, you will have Spanish classes until lunch. You will have lunch with your group, and then participate in volunteer work. Specific duties will be determined on-site. Later, your group will visit Santiago’s Parque por la Paz, in order to learn more about Chile’s recent turbulent political history. In the evening, you will have dinner with your host family and then have time to relax.
   
Day 10
Spanish Classes, Cerro San Cristobal, Reflection Meeting
  After breakfast with your host family, you will have Spanish classes until lunch. You will have lunch with your group, and then visit Cerro San Cristobal, which will provide you with unparalleled views of the city. Afterwards, you will return to our center for a feedback meeting. In the evening, you will have dinner with your host family and then have time to relax.
   
  Day 11
Spanish Classes, Volunteer Work, Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda
  After breakfast with your host family, you will have Spanish classes until lunch. You will have lunch with your group, and then participate in volunteer work. Specific duties will be determined on-site. In the evening, your group will visit the Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda, which offers Chilean cinema and art exhibitions. You will have dinner on the town and then return to sleep at your host family’s house.
   
Day 12
Spanish Classes, Volunteer Work, Farewell Party, Relax
  After breakfast with your host family, you will have Spanish classes until lunch. You will have lunch with your group, and then participate in volunteer work. Specific duties will be determined on-site. After you have completed your duties for the day, you will have a farewell party at the non-profit organization. In the evening, you will have dinner with your host family and then have time to relax.
   
Day 13
Spanish Classes, Viña Concha y Toro, Farewell Dinner
  After breakfast with your host family, you will have Spanish classes until lunch. After lunch, your group will visit Viña Concha y Toro, a Chilean vineyard where you will learn the fascinating art of making wine. Upon returning to Santiago in the evening, you have a farewell dinner with all of the host families.
   
Day 14
Departure
  After breakfast, you will have the opportunity to run any last-minute errands and explore the city one last time before departing for home.
