Sample Group Itinerary
 
Day 1
Arrival and Relaxation
  Welcome to Guatemala! Upon your arrival at the International Airport in the town of Flores, a guide will be waiting to take you by boat to the Wildlife Rescue Center run by our local partner organization. After dinner, you will have the chance to relax and get acclimated to your new surroundings.
   
Day 2
Orientation, Volunteer Assignments, Wildlife Lecture
  You will wake up early to take a guided tour of the Rescue Center’s wildlife quarantine and then meet the project staff during breakfast. After breakfast, you will have a guided tour of the Center’s Environmental Education & Interpretation Center and the animal enclosures.

Lunch will be followed by volunteer work with the animals in the afternoon. You will then attend a wildlife lecture by the on-site director in order to learn more about the local area. After dinner, you will participate in a group team-building activity.
   
Day 3
Volunteer Work, Aktun Kan Caves, and Flores
  Both before and after breakfast you will participate in volunteer work with the animals. After lunch, you will travel by boat to the town of Flores and visit the beautiful caves of Aktun Kan, near Santa Elena. You will then be given time to relax in Flores where you can shop for souvenirs and email home. Dinner will be in Flores, giving you the opportunity to sample the local cuisine. After dinner, you will return to the Rescue Center by boat.
   
Day 4
Volunteer Work, Swimming, Relaxation
  Both before and after breakfast you will participate in volunteer work with the animals. You will then have a long lunch break followed by more work with the animals. In the afternoon, you will have some time for swimming and leisure, which is an excellent opportunity to cool off and enjoy the local scenery. In the evening, you will have dinner at the Rescue Center and then relax.
   
Day 5
Jungle Trek, Scientific Chat, Tayasal Mayan Ruins
  You will wake up earlier than usual and participate in a jungle trek with two local wildlife authorities who will show you all that the rainforest has to offer. Your group will take a guided tour of the Petencito Zoo before returning to the Rescue Center for a late breakfast. You will then have a talk with a local scientist on the endangered animals of Guatemala.

After lunch, you will participate in volunteer work with the animals and then hike to the Tayasal Mayan ruins. This site is completely unexcavated and offers stunning views of the area. Following your hike, you will return to the Rescue Center and enjoy dinner and some relaxation.
   
Day 6
El Remate and Tikal
  After breakfast, you will travel to by boat to Flores and then board the bus to the Mayan ruins of Tikal. You will briefly visit the town of “El Remate” before heading to the ruins, which are the most impressive Mayan ruins in existence. You will have the opportunity to explore the area and visit the museum before eating dinner at the Jungle Lodge Hotel. You will spend the night near Tikal and get to sleep early before your big excursion to Tikal the next day.
   
Day 7
Sunrise Tour of Tikal, Return to Center, Farewell Dinner
  You will rise very early to take a sunrise tour of Tikal with a bird and wildlife guide. After breakfast, you will have free time to explore the ruins and the visitor’s center. You will have lunch at the Jungle Lodge Hotel and then take the bus back to the Rescue Center. In the afternoon, you will work with the animals for the last time and then have a farewell dinner at the center. In the evening you can relax, pack, and reflect on your experiences in Guatemala!
   
Day 8
Departure from Guatemala
  You will wake up early in order to take the boat from the rescue center to Flores. You will then depart for the United States.
