What Volunteers Can Do: |
| |
As a volunteer with our Build a Better Peru Program, you will work in rural areas outside Cusco to repair or build orphanages, schools, and homes. This work will be physically demanding. You will dig foundations, carry bricks, mix cement, and paint walls. From the ground up, you will construct a better future for those who need it most. Your volunteer work will provide much-needed facilities for the people of Peru. |

Why Volunteer in Peru? |
| |
Peruvians are among the world's poorest people, with more than 50 percent of families living below the poverty line and 25 percent living in extreme poverty. Although the country has experienced impressive economic growth in recent years, many of Peru's communities have been left behind. The picture is especially bleak in rural areas, which rarely receive government support.
Volunteers will live in Cusco, a colorful, picturesque city in southern Peru that was once the center of the Inca Empire. The surrounding region boasts a diverse landscape of jungles, mountains, plateaus, deep valleys, and canyons. |

Build a Better Peru Program Goals: |
| |
In coordination with local construction companies, our Build a Better Peru Program provides much-needed repairs for orphanages and the homes of poverty-stricken residents. As a volunteer, you will support these companies on various construction sites. From laying concrete to installing windows, your volunteer work will make an immediate difference in the lives of countless people in Peru. |

Airport Pickup and Orientation: |
| |
When you arrive in Cusco, you will be greeted at the airport by a volunteer coordinator. You will be taken to your accommodations in Cusco and provided with a brief tour of the facilities and resources available to you. The official orientation typically begins the day following your arrival. |
| |
Spanish Language Classes: |
| |
Volunteers enrolled in the standard or complete packages will be taking Spanish classes at our partner language school in Cusco. For more efficient placement upon your arrival, we ask that you take our Online Spanish Placement Test to determine your language proficiency. If this is not possible, we will test you upon arrival at the school. You will be placed according to your language level in a group of 12 or fewer students, learning conversational Spanish for two hours a day. If you enroll in the complete package, you will take an additional hour per day of private instruction.
