What Volunteers Can Do: |
| |
Working in six rural schools in the small village of Cintsa, volunteers on this program will bring computer literacy into the classroom, teaching basic computer skills to children from kindergarten to high school. Volunteers also teach environmental education through computer courses, using innovative and structured teaching modules designed by our project facilitators. Outside of the classroom, volunteers can help coordinate and participate in sports, arts and other extracurricular activities. As a volunteer with this program, you can make a dramatic impact on the educational and career opportunities for rural children in South Africa, helping them compete in an increasingly technological world. |

Why Volunteer in South Africa? |
| |
With lush dune forest, warm blue water and miles of unspoiled beach, the rugged and beautiful Wild Coast of South Africa's East Cape leaves little to be desired. South Africa is one of Africa's most stable countries and offers an array of tourist opportunities. Unfortunately, the long history of apartheid still looms over the nation and vast income disparity remains. Under the apartheid government, many rural regions were intentionally left underdeveloped and lacking access to effective education and equal opportunities, providing a needy labor pool from which the dominant white economic sector could draw. These areas, including the Wild Coast, still lack many basic resources. Working with local children on our Teach Computer Literacy Program, you can make an important difference for the future of these kids and the region. |

South Africa Teach Computer Literacy Program Goals: |
| |
The major goal of the Teach Computer Literacy Program is to equip young learners with basic computer skills to help them succeed in a modern world. The program works to teach computer literacy through an environmental topic, providing a fun, informative way to teach children about caring for and protecting their natural resources for the future. Volunteers will not only teach the kids important skills but will also instill confidence and respect as role models and mentors. |
