What Volunteers Can Do: |
| |
Volunteers in our South Africa Cintsa Horse Rehabilitation Program can help in the care and rehabilitation of horses rescued from negligence. The New Hampshire Rehab Center works to give neglected horses a loving home. Volunteers will help to provide horses with necessary medical attention, food, and lots of love. Once the horses are nursed back to health, volunteers can help tame them and rebuild their trust. When the horses are fully healed and rehabilitated, they are used for trail rides to generate the necessary income to keep the center going. |

Why Volunteer in South Africa? |
| |
The Cintsa Horse Rehabilitation Program has been running for 10 years under the careful dedication of the Dickerson Family. The program generates income from tourism to maintain the horses and run the rehab centre, but it is love and concern for the horses that keeps the program running successfully from year to year.
Over the years the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has asked the Dickerson family to assist with horses which have been rescued from neglect. This eventually led to the development of the New Hampshire Rehab Center, a small center aimed at nurturing abused horses back to good health. New Hampshire strives to rehabilitate horses to the point where they can once again be ridden. It is these very horses that are used on trail rides and thus generate the income for the centre. |

South Africa Horse Rehabilitation Program Goals: |
| |
The goal of this program is the rehabilitation of neglected and abused horses that are in desperate need of love, care, and medical attention. Horses in South Africa are often afflicted with ticks and other pests, and they arrive to the center in need of treatment and nourishment. The dedication and hard work of the volunteers and staff at the center restores the horses to health so that they can provide an important service to the community. |

Airport Pickup and Orientation: |
| |
After being picked up at the airport, volunteers will spend a week acclimating and developing an understanding of their new and sometimes challenging environment. During this week, the coordinating team and the volunteers will develop a working relationship, become familiar with the support structures in place, and learn about the operations and organization of the program. |
| |
Transportation: |
| |
A representative will meet volunteers at the East London Airport and accompany them back to the accommodations for the start of orientation. Once the program starts, volunteers are transferred to and from the center on a daily basis. |

Accommodations: |

During orientation volunteers stay at a backpackers' lodge in Cintsa. The lodge is situated in a beautiful coastal dune forest, and the spectacular scenery and warm staff delight everyone that stays there. After orientation, the volunteers will be moved into their house in East Cintsa. The house holds 7 people in double-occupancy rooms. |
