What Volunteers Can Do: |
| |
Volunteers in our Orphan Care Program will provide much-needed care and support to orphaned and vulnerable children in Swaziland. Volunteers work in the local community teaching basic education, arranging sports activities, leading arts and crafts programs, and helping to serve breakfast and lunch. The presence of the volunteers is important, especially to give the orphans of Swaziland the love and attention that they so desperately need. |

Why Volunteer in Swaziland? |
| |
More than half of the children in Swaziland cannot afford to go to school due to the effects of unemployment, the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and the repercussions of severe drought. Swaziland's unemployment rate hovers around fifty percent, and by 2010 there will be close to 200,000 children left orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
This program supports a number of small care centers and non-profit organizations in Swaziland who are working with orphans and vulnerable children. The specific aims of these centers vary, but in general they provide orphans with basic food, care, and education. In the communities where these centers operate, there are a growing number of households run by orphaned children, who frequently lack the skills, resources, and knowledge necessary to thrive. They can greatly benefit from the energy, enthusiasm, and hard work of volunteers like you. |

Swaziland Orphan Care Program Goals: |
| |
The Orphan Care Program aims to assist the children of Swaziland in a number of different ways. First, volunteers can help to provide basic education by planning and executing simple lessons. Secondly, volunteers can teach and transfer important life skills that the orphans can continue to use long after volunteers are gone. Finally, volunteers will provide meals, help to guide and care for the children, and give them love and support. Many of the children in Swaziland cannot afford to attend school, and their hope for a bright future lies in the support of community care centers and the hard work of volunteers. |
