What Volunteers Can Do: |
| |
Community centers in Istanbul, Turkey are in desperate need of native English speakers to teach the language and other skills to local children, adolescents and adults. Volunteers will work at one of two centers in the city, the first of which focuses on empowering and inspiring youths, and the other on adult education and career advancement. The schools also serve as cultural centers, working to preserve and expand Turkish culture through dance, handicrafts, music and activities. In a country vying for a place in the global economy, your volunteer efforts teaching English will make a big difference in the lives of your students, and for Turkey as a whole. |

Why Volunteer in Turkey? |
| |
Istanbul, Turkey's largest metropolis and former capital, is the only city in the world located on two continents—and its beauty comes from its exotic blend of differences: European and Asian, historic and modern, Islamic and Christian. In the process of negotiations for acceptance into the European Union, Turkey has been working to secure itself a place in the global economy for some time. In order to accomplish this, English fluency amongst its citizens is a paramount concern. And with a growing tourism industry, English language skills make an important difference in Turkish individuals' career options and opportunities for success. |

Turkey Teach English Program Goals: |
| |
One of the main goals of the Turkey Teach English Program is to provide Turkish youths and adults the chance to learn English from a native speaker. English language skills can provide local citizens with job opportunities and a higher quality of living. Learning from a native speaker encourages and inspires students and helps them to improve their oral English and pronunciation—skills most important for tourism and business environments. As a volunteer on our Turkey Teach English Program you will serve as a cross-cultural liaison in promoting communication, understanding and respect through living and working in Turkey. |
