Community Development Project Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Improve the quality of life of underprivileged Brazilians when you volunteer with our Community Development Project in Rio de Janeiro.
While Brazil is bursting with potential, problems with discrimination, corruption, violence, and lack of education have prohibited the country from rising above its advanced third-world status. Economic disparity in Rio de Janeiro is notoriously pronounced, with the poor living just blocks from neighborhoods of extreme wealth. Those who reside in the “favelas,” or urban slums, live in constant survival mode, without the benefits of public education, health care, or police protection.
Our Community Development Project aims to support, educate, and build the self-esteem of these underprivileged Rio residents. As a volunteer, you can participate in a variety of activities to bolster community spirit by organizing group outings, promoting cultural events, and assisting locals in the renovation of public areas. You can also play a role in important educational campaigns and/or community meetings that address topics such as sexual education, health awareness, drugs, and violence.
Your work as a volunteer in Rio will directly help people in need establish ways to solve local problems and improve their quality of life. Your efforts will leave a lasting imprint on the spirit of these disadvantaged people and their community for years to come.
As a volunteer you can:
Participate in education campaigns on disease prevention, recycling, and other important topics.
Help local schoolchildren and teenagers renovate public areas.
Promote cultural and recreational workshops (dance, music, art, etc.).
Arrange excursions for children to museums, beaches, and cultural events.
Facilitate meetings to address issues such as sexual education, drugs, violence, pregnancy, employment, and healthy nutrition.
Organize holiday festivities and celebrations.
Our Partners
Our partner organization in Rio de Janeiro is a nonprofit, civil association that aims to fight against social exclusion. Their goal is to build a fair and equal society through volunteer projects dealing with ecology, education, health, art, and culture. The organization seeks to make a positive impact with the help of volunteers looking for the satisfaction of sharing, learning, and helping create a fairer world for all.
On this project, our partner works with more than 40 civil organizations and NGOs around Rio. They work to build local people’s self-esteem, dignity, and citizenship through educational campaigns, cultural events, and informational meetings.
