"Teaching in a socially and economically disadvantaged area of Rio de Janeiro—minutes from the glorious beach, but a million miles from luxury—is eye-opening and surprising. I've been impressed with the integrity with which the community center pursues its mission of holistically educating children in a difficult environment."

  Teach English Project
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Teach, tutor, and mentor disadvantaged youth when you volunteer with our Teach English Project in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In our Teach English Project in Brazil, you will be working with local children in a Community Education Center near the favelas (shantytowns) in Rio de Janeiro. As a volunteer, you will work directly with the youths at the center, helping with children and teenagers. Volunteers on the Teach English Project will be assisting in the English education program at the center, including teaching classes, tutoring students, and helping organize scholastic activities.

Besides teaching students in the English classroom, volunteers will have the opportunity to help in specialized areas such as sports, art, computers, and childcare in the nursery. Volunteers in Rio de Janeiro will be helping promote the health and education of underprivileged children, as well as giving them the individual attention they crave and deserve.

Our Partners
Our partner organization in Rio de Janeiro has actively helped the communities in two local favelas for over 20 years. The organization is committed to providing health and education to the underprivileged families of these favelas. They have converted donated houses into schools, daycares, and health centers for the favela community. The schools and daycares take in children as young as a few months old, up to young adults; educate, feed, and teach them various skills; and most importantly, demonstrate that they care. They currently provide help for over 400 children, and their medical staff provides support for over 1500 families.
