Build RuralIndia Project Himachal or Rajasthan, India
Make a vital difference in isolated Indian villages when you volunteer with our Build Rural India Project.
Despite India’s recent economic growth, the country’s rural villages remain much as they were 20 years ago. Telephone service is irregular at best and electricity is a precious, sometimes rare, commodity. Schools lack qualified teachers, and healthcare is often little more than an illusion for many residents. Volunteers with the Build Rural India Project will work in Rajasthan or Himachal, two predominantly rural states that receive little attention from government officials.
Over the course of two to three weeks, volunteers in India will work hand-in-hand with local residents to advance community development and social awareness. You will volunteer in impoverished villages that have been largely cut off from mainstream development and are in much need of economic and social aid. The villages are dependent on agriculture and their residents remain poor—the per capita income is around $300 a year.
As a volunteer on the Rural India Project, you will be involved in various repair and beautification programs. Areas of focus include daycare centers, primary schools, and the houses of residents living below the poverty line. Volunteers will also participate in public awareness campaigns. A special effort is made to include the villagers in the projects, and volunteers will have the opportunity to experience meaningful exchange will local residents through shared labor.
As a volunteer you can:
Repair and beautify daycare centers.
Refurbish rundown elementary schools.
Renovate the houses of impoverished local residents.
Help villagers modernize local community centers.
Motivate and organize teams of village youth to clean parks and streets.
Promote hygiene and healthcare among local residents.
Educate local people on HIV/AIDS prevention.
Our Partners
Due to the lack of social welfare in India, local citizens have collaborated to promote health and education on a state-by-state basis. Our partner organization in India has been working to better the lives of rural residents since 2000 through volunteer-supported education, health, and vocational programs. As a volunteer in India, you will be helping promote health and education in rural villages and your work will benefit local communities for the coming generations.
For the Build Rural India Project, the organization has initiated regular village meetings to encourage resident participation in the work areas. A specialized team is working in a number of local villages to prepare the ground for volunteer efforts and community involvement. Your contribution to this project will help harness the power of the local people to improve otherwise ignored villages and towns in northern India.
