“I just came back from my volunteer [program] in Goa, India. Never in my life had I had such a wonderful experience. Everything was perfect, and it was all thanks to the staff [who was] so open and kind to my needs. I loved it so much I will be back very soon. I will never forget my trip and I will tell others about this.”

  Goa Community Outreach Project
Goa, India

Enjoy world-famous beaches while improving the lives of local residents when you volunteer with our Goa Community Outreach Project in India.

Goa represents the range of India’s population, as it is home to both a booming tourist economy and deeply impoverished slums.Known for its international culture and stunning beaches, the coastal state has become a celebrated vacation spot. Not everyone has benefited from the prosperity, however. Homeless children walk the street, and many families live in poverty on the outskirts of the flourishing resorts. The region lacks sufficient educational resources and suffers a high rate of HIV/AIDS infection.

As a volunteer in Goa, you can choose from a variety of service opportunities. Whatever you choose, you are sure to experience the best of Indian scenery and culture while helping the region’s neglected people.

Education—Volunteers can work in elementary schools teaching English and math, helping teachers create low-cost educational materials, and encouraging a creative environment through painting, games, singing, and other activities. You may also have the opportunity to work at a special school for mentally challenged children or at a local orphanage.

Childcare—Early childhood care is a critical need in many rural areas in India, including Goa. Volunteers will help provide personal care and attention to local children, and also record statistics on health, vaccinations, growth, and nutrition. You may also go on community visits and work with mothers in need.

Eldercare—Volunteers will care for elderly men and women who reside in residential institutions, typically without friends or family to support them. You will be involved in the counseling and personal care of the residents, as well as participating in community outings and recreational activities.

Empowerment—Volunteers in Goa can work to bridge the gender gap in India by instructing women and teenage girls in English, computer skills, and vocational education. In addition to improving their educational and employment prospects, these efforts boost the women’s confidence, self-esteem, and independence. Volunteers can also choose to create community health-awareness campaigns on such concerns as breastfeeding, safe sex, and proper hygiene.

HIV/AIDS Support—Volunteers staying for eight weeks or more may work in the area of HIV/AIDS. In collaboration with government health institutions, volunteers care for HIV/AIDS patients residing in residential centers. You will also have the opportunity to help organize AIDS-awareness campaigns in and around Goa.

Our Partners
Due to the lack of social welfare in India, local citizens have collaborated to promote health and education on a state-by-state basis. Our partner organization in India has been working to better the lives of rural residents since 2000 through volunteer-supported education, health, and vocational programs. As a volunteer in India, you will be helping promote health and education in rural villages and your work will benefit local communities for the coming generations.
