What Volunteers Can Do: |
| |
Volunteers in our Zambia Sports Coaching Program will lead sports games and recreational activities with children in local schools and communities. In addition to the benefits of physical activity, using games makes it easier to talk about issues such as AIDS, HIV, and sex education.
You will spend your time training, guiding, and working with soccer teams in the Livingstone community as well as teaching physical education in schools where it is neglected due to the lack of trained teachers. |

Why Volunteer in Zambia? |
| |
Mosi-oa-tunya: The Smoke that Thunders. This is how the locals refer to the magnificent spray from Victoria Falls, the largest waterfall in the world. Against this backdrop lies the southern Zambian town of Livingstone, located just 4 miles from Victoria Falls. Livingstone has been described as Zambia's tourist mecca and the "adventure capital of Africa," a place with a colonial character and easygoing African charm.
Due to the lack of trained teachers, physical education has been neglected at local Zambian schools and does not accomplish the important role it could play in the lives of the children and the community. Engagement in sports and exercise is fundamental for children as it is necessary for a healthy physical, psychological, and social development. |

Zambia Sports Coaching Program Goals: |
| |
The goal of this program is to take an active role in improving Zambian children's natural development, and in the process raise awareness about HIV by teaching prevention, health habits, and nutrition. Volunteers visit local schools and communities to give support in these areas by teaching physical education and coaching sports teams.
Volunteers offer physical education lessons to teachers in addition to students. By training the teachers, you empower them to carry on with what you've started once you go home. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to incorporate sports and games into HIV prevention workshops given at local communities. |
